It’s plug and play simple, just connect the signal cables, plug in the USB power, and it works. I use it primarily to feed video from the HDMI out on a BMPCC 6K to an SDI monitor. The SDI signal is more reliable in a production setting than an HDMI cable, less prone to coming loose or breaking. And this converter is completely compatible with that work flow. The price is excellent given the functionality and performance. At this price I can keep several in my kit bag. Review: A good compact HDMI to SDI encoder – Wanting to connect multiple displays to the same source, over some distance, I was interested in using a solution based on SDI instead of a multitude of other options. It just seemed to be the best choice for cost efficiency, and preserving functionality. Since this was my first experience with SDI, it turns out to be a great solution because it does solve all that and is actually more flexible in regards to signal distribution. This handy encoder did a great job in that it was up and working within minutes, as soon as everything was connected from end-to-end. I paired it with a decoder from the same vendor and the video/audio quality on the receiving end appears to be perfect. The signal LED flashes when there is not a valid HDMI input, which is a nice feature. My only complaint with this unit is the power connection uses the older USB-Micro style connector. The whole electronics industry has been standardizing on using the USB Type-C connections for a long time now for this purpose. After a period of having it running for 24×7 for more than 9 days continuously, the unit does run pretty warm. So it probably should have adequate air circulation or they should consider a larger case/heat sink or active cooling on the encode. As I mentioned, I had a decoder from the same vendor and the decoder did not seem to get anywhere near as warm and it ran much cooler. Otherwise this device worked perfectly and I’m very satisfied with the performance so far.
